The Art Nouveau Hotel Paxmontana, majestically seated in front of the Obwalden mountain backdrop. The view of the Alps and of nearby Lake Sarnen is breathtaking, the peace is soothing.

The hotel was built as the spa centre Nünalphorn at the end of the 19th century by the pioneer of tourism Franz Hess-Michel. In the 1950s the spa centre came under Church ownership, which then gave it the name Paxmontana. The past is only too apparent: the unique arcade to the hotel, the facade with the towers, the olive-colour, with gold-leaf furnished stucco on the ceilings, neo-renaissance pictures and beech parquet floors with walnut frieze are only some of the witnesses of the contemporary history.

In 2002, the national committee the Swiss International Committee on Monuments awarded the Paxmontana with “particular recognition for the outstanding experience in this historical hotel restored according to national-heritage criteria”.

The hotel, closed since autumn 2009 for major renovation, will be reopened in December 2011.

At the hotel's Internet Site you find more information.

Here takes place the course Tango de Salón.
